VETERINARY COURSES

custom, in-person courses, to fit your specific needs whether you are a veterinarian, student, owner, ranch manager or a wildlife enthusiast.

sawv veterinary course

The SAWV course is the primary offering presented by SA WorldVets and is likely to be the preferred choice unless participants have specific requirements, in which case they should inquire about alternative courses.

Attendees of the SAWV course can expect a highly enriching experience. During the stay, they will have ample opportunities to engage in hands-on conservation work, reflecting the belief that the best learning occurs in the field. Pre-scheduled operations can be arranged closer to the time, as bookings are typically made only up to two weeks in advance due to the dynamic nature of wildlife work.

Participants’ experience will combine practical fieldwork, lectures, and visits to prominent South African sites, such as the Kruger National Park, rehabilitation centers, and other notable locations. The course agenda remains flexible, adapting to emergencies that often arise in the bush, ensuring that participants are always prepared for any changes.

  • Can non-veterinary students apply for an SA WorldVets course?

There are two options to get from OR Tambo to Hoedspruit, Limpopo – the closest town to SAWorldVets.

The first step is to book a connecting flight to Eastgate Airport, just outside of Hoedspruit with South African Express Airlines. SAWorldVets will then collect you from the airport and transport you to SAWorldVets Lodge where you will be staying.

Please ensure sufficient time between your arrival from your international flight and your transferring flight to Hoedspruit to ensure that you do not miss your second flight.

A cheaper alternative to the connecting flight is to book a seat on the Swift Kruger Shuttle or Ashtons Shuttle Service. Shuttles is usually 70 USD one way.

SA WorldVets will be happy to book your seat on one of the above shuttles on your behalf, so please contact us directly on info@saworldvets.com if you would like to make use of the shuttle. Please keep in mind that shuttle seats are limited so they need to be booked in advance to ensure a seat.

Cost with Kruger Park Shuttles is usually 130$ return tickets.

  • What should I pack?

Casual, comfortable clothing is suitable throughout the year when on safari or a Wildlife veterinarian Course in Africa. Whilst you may elect to start a completely new safari ‘wardrobe’ it is really not necessary to look like an extra on the set of Out of Africa!

Apart from selecting reasonably neutral or ‘non-bright’ colored clothing, safari-wear is generally casual and practical. Be sure you take clothes that you feel comfortable in – especially when it comes to your walking/ working / hiking boots. The newer quick-drying fabrics, shirts with ventilation is a good choice.

Wearing clothes in layers is the most practical way to cope with fluctuating day/night temperatures and cool evenings whilst on safari. As the day warms up you can peel off another layer. Then as it begins to cool toward evening, you can put them back on. Here’s the “must-haves” to pack for your safari:
